The funds had a significant impact on our organisation. The request was for funding to purchase a vehicle and such capital funding is difficult to find as not many funders offer it. The funding ensured we could purchase an essential piece of equipment that enables us to deliver our services. The speedy decision making was of particular benefit.
Without DECBG our community would be worse off. We are grateful for the support and encouragement DECBG has provided which undoubtedly has strengthened our community increasing mental health and wellbeing. Thank you.
The Committee and community are very grateful for the funding we received and without support from such organisations, many local communal buildings and groups would not be able to carry on.
The funds are vital. We have seen a huge increase in visitor numbers, income has doubled, we are providing many more services, working with many more partners. We are planning on developing tourism, housing and community care in the future.
Health and wellbeing has increased beyond recognition. The community group does not have a building to call its own apart from our community shed which is full! 1. The contribution to our tangible monument to the 100th anniversary marking end of WWI was our first application. This monument has been photographed many times by visitors, serving personnel and has taken on a story of its own. Sitting in direct line with the war memorial it is important to the history of our village being referred to as the “Commonwealth Village”. 2. Christmas street lights. Without DECBG’s contribution to these it is unlikely the community would have purchased these lights. Since then we have fundraised, added and maintained the lights to a high standard. Community members are keen to fundraise to maintain these as they brighten up the dark, Winter months and mean the festive season is upon us. Community members look forward to the switch-on most of all. The lights are also admired by people from other communities who consider them the best display of all. Comments received are that our lights are the best display within the locality at Christmas. We are very proud of them. Thank you for investing in our community. 3. Community Shed. This was our last successful application. It is now fully stocked with our sleigh, fun day equipment, Candy Cart, records, etc. Everything is now housed in one location rather than around the community and in our homes! We hold an asset register detailing where our equipment is and that has been extremely helpful. The only negative is that we have to pay rent to a local housing landlord for the space!
The funds we have received from DECBG have played a important role with in our community, one of the best projects as a community we done was the festival light project at Christmas this was supported by Ewehill 16, Solwaybank and EDF Beckburn. The community has never seen anything like this project and following the doom and gloom of covid it brought happiness and joy to our community which was needed.
DECBG funding has been transformational for our organisation. Without the support that we have received, we would be unable to continue promoting the sport of green bowling in a rural environment.
DECBG has been a total lifeline to supporting the survival of our organisation. The funding has upskilled our staff, enabled us to purchase quality, long-lasting equipment that has improved our Care Inspectorate grades. The children are able to enjoy being outside in a safe and secure outdoor area which was purpose built for our needs and part funded by your organisation. Without this fund Langholm Playcare would not be where it is today. We would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to all involved.
Funds received from DECBG have enabled us to install vehicle speed awareness signs throughout our district. The signs have been welcomed by the communities as they advise drivers of the speed they are travelling. Our 5 hamlets are located along a 10 mile stretch of national speed limit roads and slowing down from 60 to 30 without checking your speedometer is difficult, these signs are very useful for this and drivers have commented on their usefulness, helping to make the district a safer place for pedestrians and children in particular. We are very grateful to DECBG for the funds which have allowed us to install these signs.
The funds had a significantly positive impact by making a school trip to a windfarm where pupils benefited from learning about job opps in the renewable sector and got the opp to attend a workshop on the applications of physics in wind turbines design. The purchase of the STEM hoodies for pupils who successfully completed their science dark project and young stem leader programme was a great way to motivate the pupils and rewards their efforts. Showcasing their projects via a coffee morning also gave the pupils the chance to improve their organisational and communications skills.
